The 5am Club

I took The 5AM Club by Robin Sharma, on holiday with me recently.

The book follows an entrepreneur and an artist who meet a billionaire mentor who introduces them to the transformative power of waking at 5am. It’s not really about the hour itself – it’s about reclaiming the first part of your day before the world makes its demands on you.

The mentor teaches them the “20/20/20 Formula”: twenty minutes of movement to energize your body, twenty minutes of reflection to clear your mind, and twenty minutes of growth through learning or skill-building.

What I love is how the book frames morning rituals. It isn’t about becoming superhuman or all about productivity driven – it’s about creating a sacred piece of time where you can think clearly, reconnect with what matters, and set the tone for how you want to move through your day.

This resonates deeply with my coaching work. Life transitions – recovering from illness, stepping into new roles, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself – can leave us feeling reactive, like we’re constantly playing catch-up. Yet even small shifts in how we start our day can create profound impact – helping us feel more grounded, intentional, and in control of our own narrative.

No matter where you are in life, this book is a reminder that how we begin our mornings shapes how we live our days – and ultimately, our lives.

Whilst I haven’t succeeded in waking before sunrise every day, the days when I’ve enjoyed those quiet moments of calm, with my dog next to me, have been magical.
